Man survives after steering wheel pops off

Posted by Chris Illuminati

It's like something out of a Stooges short. Here hold this imbecile.

State troopers said a man is lucky to have only minor injuries when he crashed his car into a barn after his steering wheel popped off while driving. Trooper Keith Leary said the 59-year-old man was driving his 1978 Buick on Thursday afternoon on State Route 530 when his steering wheel came off, the car left the road, went down an embankment, up the other side, and crashed into a barn.

I'm sure everyone at Toyota exhaled a sigh of relief after reading the make of the car.

The sounds in this video are ACTUAL sounds from the Jeep. Everyone began rehearsing their parts 2 weeks before we shot the video. It took us 7 hours of filming to get a solid take.

CLASSIC TALE: Airman's Passion For The Chevelle Malibu Took Off In 1965

Posted by Vern Parker

Airman Second Class Robert Holland was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in central California when he bought a new car in April 1965. Holland purchased his first blue "300 Series" Chevrolet Chevelle four-door sedan with a 327-cubic-inch V-8 engine and a four-speed transmission. Within a year the young man was discharged and drove his car home to Elgin, Ill.

Today in 2010, Holland still owns that 1965 Chevrolet. He has had so much good luck with it that in the last 45 years he has owned 19 Chevelle and Malibu cars.

2010 Off To Fast Sales Start -- Will `Toy Cars' Catch Up?

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. X10CH_CR046

Any way you measure it the auto industry had an awful year in 2009. At 10.4 million total sales there were almost 2.8 million fewer vehicles sold in 2009 than in 2008. Only two automakers -- Hyundai and Subaru -- managed to improve their sales in 2009.

We looked hard at the 2009 numbers and frankly we're ready to put a period behind it. There is a silver lining though; 2010 is starting out on a roll. Chevrolet posted 105,294 total vehicle sales in January 2010, representing an increase of 36.4 percent over January 2009. Leading the gains are Chevrolet's fuel-efficient family cars. Ford Motor Company kicked off 2010 with a 24 percent January sales increase compared to that of a year ago.

CLASSIC TALE: Garaged 40 Years In Airplane Hangar 1927 Model T Hits The Road

Posted by Vern Parker

More than 30 years have passed since Stuart Tomlinson's father gave him what has turned out to be his first Model T Ford. Tomlinson says that he had been indoctrinated by his father into the world of Model T Fords when he was nine years old in El Paso, Texas. Stuart now owns four Model T Fords.

In 2005, Tomlinson's job had placed him in Wyoming. One day he was driving a Model T on the streets of Laramie when an elderly resident approached him and asked if he would be interested in another Model T. What a silly question. Of course he would be interested.

How to make your car run on vegetable oil

Posted by Chris Illuminati

I'm not sure I could make this happen because I have trouble remembering to get the oil changed. Hell, I've got trouble making the thing run on gas. For all the gear heads who think they could pull this off, take a crack at it.

CLASSIC TALE: 1962 Jaguar MK II is embodiment of beauty, performance

Posted by Vern Parker

From the days when the Jaguar firm was operated under the watchful eye of Sir William Lyons, each and every Jaguar has been produced with bodies defined by glamorous, stylish lines. Included in that list of gorgeous Jaguars is the MK II saloon.

In 1962, $4,800 would buy a Jaguar MK II sedan with a 3.8-liter, inline six-cylinder engine beneath the sculpted hood -- the same engine that propelled the classic E-Type Jaguars.

CLASSIC TALE: 1966 Chevrolet Impala Located in Jersey, Rust-Free

Posted by Vern Parker

As Bill Wyman was growing up in a General Motors family in Detroit he was too young to appreciate the classic lines of the mid-1960s Chevrolet Impalas. Years later, however, the 1966 Chevrolet Impala attracted his attention, particularly the two-door hardtop model.

"In my early 20s," Wyman says, "I remember thinking that when I turn 50 I am going to buy a classic car." As that inevitable half-century mark approached, Wyman started shopping for the car that he had promised himself. "I'm really into cars," he admits.

CLASSIC TALE: 1914 KisselKar is a Farm Relic and a Museum Relic

Posted by Vern Parker

For decades Lynn Kissel tinkered with and raced various old and not so old cars. He was only vaguely aware during those years that there was a car with his surname.

"My son Andrew gave me a framed 1920 Saturday Evening Post magazine page with a large Kissel ad." That gift hung on the wall of his office, a daily reminder that Kissel cars had existed.

CLASSIC TALE: 1971 Porsche 911E Targa picked up in Europe, shipped to U.S.

Posted by Vern Parker

Greg Cabral graduated college in 1967 and worked non-stop for almost four years. He decided to take some time off, buy a Porsche and tour Europe. In the spring of 1971 he went to the McPeak Porsche/Audi dealership in Walnut Creek, Calif., to order the Porsche of his dreams.

"I changed my mind about the color three or four times," Cabral says.
