Leila Cafe: Affordable Middle Eastern cuisine in Center City

Living in Center City Philadelphia offers me a wide variety of dining options on a daily basis. Chinese one night, Italian the next. Brunch on the weekends and burritos for a quick, nightly pick-up. And it seems like the area around my apartment is constantly evolving. Since moving in over a year ago, I've witnessed at least six new restaurants open in a three-block radius.

While the good citizens of Philadelphia have seen their own kielbasa battle between Czerw's and Swiacki's rage on for years (and according to Wiki, AND unrelated to those businesses, there was even a reputed Kielbasa Posse - The Philadelphia Polish Mob), the Plymouth Kielbasa Festival (oscillating mascot - complete with Gibson Flying V guitar- at right) seems to encourage "friendly" sausage war with a parade, cover bands and no Kielbasa Queen pageant. The 2009 edition of the festival takes place Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29.

Time is running out for you to take in Hidden City Philadelphia, the underground arts festival which highlights unknown historical and architectural landmarks in the city via new installations of various mediums of art. Think of it as sort of an anti-Art Museum or Franklin, and most certainly the polar opposite of the duck boats. It has been holding events since May 30; its last day is this Sunday, June 28. Find sites and landmarks, some of which you may pass every day and not appreciate their true worth, here.
