Give up?

Takoyaki. These pancake-like meals are popular in Japan, where folks can grab a quick bite to eat, without ruining their waist or ignoring taste.

Until now you had a fairly long trip to get fresh takoyaki, but with the opening of  Maru Global Takoyaki (255 S. 10th St., Philadelphia), you'll be able to sample the taste close to home. The

The takoyaki is a quickly grilled pancake, crispy outside and bursting with dashi, ginger and fillings inside. And if you're wondering, those fillings vary and include octopus, shrimp, chicken, or beef, or the less traditional like Philly Cheesesteak (with shaved top sirloin, caramelized onions, and three-cheddar béchamel); pizza with mozzarella cheese (regular or vegan); spicy shrimp (with scallion, red ginger, and spicy mayo); crab cake; and barbecue chicken.

Health nuts will appreciate the focus on quality ingredients. “We insist on locally farmed, organic, sustainable produce and meats,” says owner Nicole Igarashi. “We believe in small batches and high quality ingredients. Our food is fresh, quick, and simple.
