The area's most expensive foods

Posted by Kaytie Dowling

After a dinner out, especially in the city, I can start to feel like eating is an absurdly expensive habit. Little did I know until this morning just how true that is. Here's a list of the world's most expensive foods

While I might not dine on white truffles or Wagyu  beef every night, I've been known to work up a decent tab once in a while. Here are some of the most shocking things I've seen on local menus. While these don't rank in the thousands-of-dollars-per-pound category, they'll all make you think about what you're shelling out for:

  • A $40 salad bar at Chima. Sure it's all the Brazilian steak you can eat, but it's still a salad bar a heart.
  • The $195 Grand Degustation menu at Le Bec-Fin. It's eight courses of darn good eating, but it's still more than I've ever spent on shoes, and that's saying something. (Plus, it's shocking in comparison to the renowned Talula's Table eight-course menu, which rings in at $98 per person.)
  • $100 cheese steak at Barclay Prime. The much talked about dish is only available by special request, and with three days lead time, but you can still have Philly's favorite indulgence.
  • A breakfast of two eggs, meat, potatoes, coffee and juice at La Croix will set you back $22.
