Punk rock and roll Fourth of July in Philadelphia
Posted by McG
Patriotic punk rockers take note: There are two good opportunities to celebrate the Fourth.
Firstly, new wave/punk melodic master Jay Reatard plays Johnny Brenda's.
Reatard has a new album coming out on Matador, "Watch Me Fall," sure to be full of pogo-worthy punk ditties and late '70s and early '80s new wave type jams.
His opening act is T.V. Smith, whose band The Adverts released the under appreciated punk LP, "Crossing the Red Sea With the Adverts," back in 1978.
Secondly, in homage to hardcore matinees of yesteryear, there's an afternoon show with Leftover Crack and The Casualties at the Starlight Ballroom.
Expect lots of crusty punks, insane thrashers and perhaps even a mohawk or two for that show.
See you in the pit.
